Writing workshops, and critiques for adults and teachers

My fee is $400 (in New Hampshire and surrounding areas) for a full day of workshops. For out of state visits, please contact me. Also contact me to discuss options and pricing for partial days. You can combine children’s author visits and adult workshops.

  • Writing For Children: advice and life lesson’s from a published children’s author and editor

A workshop for beginning adult writers interested in writing for children. In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of starting a writing career in children’s literature from one author and editor’s perspective. Participants will leave with a suggested reading list for picture books, middle grade and YA, recommended writer’s websites and blogs, a “to-do and not-to-do” list when it comes to querying, and inspiration!

  • The First Five Pages

Most editors will decide to request a full read of a manuscript within the first five pages. Discover what they see in those pages that makes them say “yes” or “no”. Using real submissions that were selected for publication, and some that were rejected, participants will learn what an editor is looking for and how to revise their work to get the best first impression. Workshop includes a written critique of the first five pages of a middle grade or young adult manuscript or the first page of a picture book manuscript.

Put The “engage” Back in Engagement: Creative Lesson Planning for Teachers

Do you feel like you don’t have enough time between teaching and grading to make your lesson plans really pop? Not sure how to make core curriculum creative? I offer one-to-one or group consultations to put the creativity and fun back into teaching and learning. We will brainstorm for ideas and put together an action plan. I’ll even help you create some fun lessons and materials to incorporate into your classroom.

  • Editor Critiques

Need a fresh pair of eyes from a professional in the business? Query me with the name of your manuscript, word count, and intended audience. If it interests me I will do a one page sample edit to see if you like my style and if we’ll work together well. I charge $150.00 for a picture book or picture book dummy, and $3.00-$5.00 per 1000 words for middle grade or young adult, depending on the edits needed. I’ll give you an estimate before we begin.
