About Me

Jennifer CarsonHi! My  name is Jennifer Carson and I live in New Hampshire with my husband, four sons and many four legged friends. I grew up on a steady diet of Muppet movies and renaissance faires, and would occasionally be caught reading under the blankets with a flashlight. Besides telling tales, and being an editor for Spencer Hill Press, I like to create fantasy creatures and characters and  publish my own sewing patterns. My artwork and patterns can be seen online at thedragoncharmer.com. I have two children’s books out, a middle grade novella , To Find A Wonder, and my newest book, Hapenny Magick. I also have two short stories published. You can find links to those here.

My work  has been featured in national magazines like: Faerie Magazine, Soft Dolls and Animals, Teddy Bear and Friends and Dolls United. In the spring of 2008, I was featured on the ABC affiliate, WMUR tv show, New Hampshire Chronicle and in the fall of 2009 was featured on the Yankee cable channel’s Kearsarge Valley Magazine show. My sewing patterns have been translated into Dutch and in April 2009, I received the NE-SCBWI Ruth Landers Glass Scholarship for my writing.

My biggest dream? Working with the Jim Henson Company. Jim Henson and the Froud’s have been a huge influence on both my writing and my art.

Hello Jennifer, what a fantastic site, I’m a huge fan of Faerie (especially Celtic and Arthurian). I bet you’re a big fan of The Frouds too xx

    Hi Jennifer,
My daughter and I have just found your website and patterns and think they are gorgeous.
We were wondering if you would allow us to make some and sell them on our craft stall in NZ.
We are currently allowed to do this with certain patterns of doll makers here as long as we acknowledge the pattern author and or include their website which we are happy to do. Please let us know how you feel about this.

      Hi Shirley,
Yes! I have the same terms as most other designers. =0)
For each pattern you may make 6 dolls a year for sale as long as I am credited as the designer, and 10 for gifts or personal pleasure. You may also enter your creature into competition. It is all there on the last page of the written instructions! Thank you for asking. I’m also rebuilding my customer gallery, so send photos!

I bought your patterns of yuki and hoot. I am having trouble finding the fur in my town. Can you recommend a website for this. Also is the dragons Andes and bookworm in you book. I wish I would have seen your dragon book on doll makers journey, I would have bought that. Thanks vickie

      Hi Vicki!
I like to buy my fur from http://www.mendels.com. They have a large variety to choose from in both short and long lengths.
Beyond Bears has 5 jointed animal patterns and 1 non-jointed animal! But no dragons =0) I am working on a second book that focuses on the fantastic animals in materials other than fur. The patterns in Beyond Bears are only available with the book, and Dollmakersjourney.com is not carrying the book yet. You can find it in my Etsy shop at http://www.jennifercarson.etsy.com. Happy creating!
